Posted on board the British submarine H.M.S. ARIADNE of the Royal British Pacific Fleet. Endorsed "J. F, Lanternian M3/c / Submarine Repair Unit / Navy #3002 (Subic Bay Naval Station) c/o F.P.O. / San Francisco, Calif.”

Handstamped and signed with "FROM H.M. SHIP" green censor mark.

The H.M.S. ARIADNE, a mine laying ship,  was the only British ship that participated in the Leyte Landing of October 20, 1944, the start of the liberation of the Philippines.

Thereafter, an unnamed 5 masted British schooner classified as a top secret communications ship also participated during the January 1945 Battle of Lingayen, in the main island of Luzon.
